Lake Kawaguchiko is always a delightful and wonderful place to visit✨Of course, autumn—with its beautiful fall foliage—is also a great time to visit🥰
At the main venue—the "Maple Corridor"—a row of autumn-colored trees lines the banks of the Nashi River as it flows toward Lake Kawaguchi; the sight of the entire area bathed in the hues of autumn is truly breathtaking‼️
There will be many food stalls in the area, so you’ll be able to fully enjoy the food, too😋

Other recommended spots around Lake Kawaguchi in autumn include Oishi Park, famous for its beautiful *kochia* (summer cypress) plants, and Ubuyagasaki—a location where, on a clear, calm day, you can enjoy a stunning view of Mount Fuji reflected on the lake's surface, framed by autumn foliage !
When staying at Lake Kawaguchiko, please consider staying at the Toyoko INN Fuji Kawaguchiko Ohashi🏨
A complimentary shuttle bus service runs from Kawaguchiko Station to the hotel.
And we also Express bus services connecting Otsuki, Kawaguchiko, Gotemba, and Mishima🚌
This bus is available free of charge to Toyoko Inn Club Card members and guests staying at a Toyoko Inn on the same day. (It may also be used on the day of checkout.)
We look forward to serving you🥰

For those who would like to enjoy a view of Mt. Fuji on a crisp autumn day, Lake Yamanakako Waterfront Park, located on the northern shore, is a great choice !
A magnificent view with absolutely nothing to obstruct it🗻👀
As of October 27, 2026, Mt. Fuji has not yet received its first snowfall of the season, but I expect we will be able to see it looking beautiful with a dusting of snow by early November☃

🍂Arakurayama Sengen Park🍂
(Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture)

Arakurayama is famous for its beautiful spring scenery, featuring cherry blossoms, a five-storied pagoda, and Mount Fuji. In autumn, the fall foliage reaches its peak, offering a view that is every bit as spectacular as the one in spring🗻
To reach the observation deck, you’ll need to climb 398 steps—but the scenery along the way is truly beautiful, so be sure to wear comfortable clothing and give it a try✨

🍂Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture🍂
[Best time to view autumn foliage] Late October to early December
While Hakone is best known for its hot springs, it is also absolutely wonderful during the autumn foliage season😍
I visited Hakone in early October—just before the peak of the autumn colors—and would like to share what it was like during that time🎵

First, I’ll visit Hakone Shrine⛩ Although it’s not quite time for the autumn foliage, the red torii gate and the main shrine building blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings, creating a solemn atmosphere🙏

The Kuzuryu(nine dragon) Shrine is also enshrined within Hakone shrine grounds🐉The *chozusya* (purification pavilion) with its row of dragons, as well as the dragon painted on the ceiling, are both really cool✨
There is a torii gate on the water along the shore of Lake Ashinoko, right by Hakone Shrine😍
This appears to be a very popular photo spot; there was a long line of people waiting for their turn.

After walking from Hakone Shrine, I arrived at Hakone-en Park—located roughly in the middle of the eastern shore of Lake Ashinoko—where I found a wealth of engaging attractions, including restaurants, souvenir shops, an aquarium, an "Animal Land," and an amphibious bus🎵
It seems like a lovely place to enjoy at any time of day, throughout the year—but the trees along the lakeshore, just beginning to take on the subtle hues of autumn, were truly wonderful🍂
[Hakone-en Park]

I took the ropeway from in front of Hakone-en toward the summit of Mt. Komagatake.

The view from the summit was spectacular, overlooking Lake Ashinoko, Mt. Fuji, and Sagami Bay🥰

After enjoying the scenery, I took the ropeway back to "Hakone-en Park" and then walked along the shore of Lake Ashinoko toward "Togendai" which lies further to the north🚶♂️
The walk from Hakone-en Park to Togendai takes about an hour, following paths along the lakeshore and through the woods.
Alternatively, you can use other modes of transport, such as buses or sightseeing boats, so please choose the option that best suits your travel plans.
Along the walking path lay Hakone Kuzuryu Forest Park.
Much like at Hakone Shrine, there was a torii gate on the water here⛩
After arriving at Togendai, I boarded the ropeway bound for Owakudani

As Owakudani is one of Hakone’s premier tourist attractions, the ropeway here can become extremely crowded at certain times😅
When heading to there, it is recommended to plan a schedule that allows for plenty of time.
Upon arriving at Owakudani, I was greeted by the scent of sulfur and the sight of steam rising from all around‼️
In Hakone, hot springs emerge from the ground in various parts of the town; however, at Owakudani, the source consists of steam containing hot spring components, which is then cooled down to be used as hot spring water♨
For a snack, I had Owakudani’s famous “black egg.”😋
These are hard-boiled eggs cooked in the hot spring waters of Owakudani; legend has it that eating one can help you live a longer life. The eggshells have turned black due to a reaction with the minerals in the hot spring water, but the inside is just a regular, slightly salty hard-boiled egg🥚
Eating a boiled egg in the cool autumn breeze somehow tasted even better than usual👍

Finally, I headed to Sengokuhara, where a vast field of Japanese pampas grass stretches out.

The silver grass, illuminated by the setting sun, brought to mind the quintessential landscapes of Japan.
As the day drew to a close, I felt a sense of nostalgia🥰
