Viewing Mt. Fuji from Shizuoka 🗻

How did you spend the New Year holidays?

We wish you all a happy and healthy year in 2025.

I went to Miho no Matsubara in Shizuoka city on New Year's Day to see the first sunrise of the year.⛅

Miho no Matsubara was designated as Japan's first Place of Scenic Beauty in 1922 as a "place of outstanding scenery with a view of Mt. Fuji across the coastal pine groves."

It is also a very popular spot for viewing the beautiful first sunrise of the year!

On New Year's Day, many people come to worship at the nearby Miho Shrine and watch the first sunrise of the year, so the parking lot is full by 2:30am.

 

The sunrise at Miho no Matsubara occurs over the Izu Peninsula, so it is a little later than other sunrise spots in Shizuoka Prefecture.

As I waited and watched the sky and sea gradually get brighter, the sun finally rose around 7am!

And I looked north, I saw Mt. Fuji shining in the morning sun!

It was a wonderful sight and well worth the wait in the cold.🗻⛅

 

I next headed to Tagonoura in Shizuoka city.

This is the view from the Mt. Fuji Dragon Tower in Tagonoura Minato Park .

There is a traditional Japanese poem(called "Waka") in the Hyakunin-Isshu that goes,  “When you go out to Tagonoura, you can see snow falling on the white peak of Mt. Fuji.”

The view is just as beautiful as the poem suggests. 😍

There was a stone monument with a waka poem in this park.

At Tagonoura Fishing Port, located down the hill in front of the park, fishing boats were hoisting their fishing flags!

In Japan, fishing frags are considered a lucky charm, so I was lucky to see it.🐟

 

The last, I went to Fujisan-Hongu-Sengen-Taisha Shrine in Fujinomiya city. ⛩

There were many worshipers there.

There were a lot of food trucks lined up on the approach to the shrine, and they all looked delicious,

so I had a hard time deciding which one to buy😋

But first, let's pray!

I prayed to the goddess of this shrine (Konohana-Sakuyahime-no-Mikoto), “May this year be a happy and peaceful one!” 🙏

After my worship, I enjoyed some sweet sake at a shop in front of the shrine's gate and took a stroll around the area.

Konohana-Sakuyahime-no-Mikoto, the main deity enshrined at Sengen Shrine, is said to be the god of family harmony, safe childbirth, the healthy growth of children, and good water.

So, there are many clear spring water ponds and rivers within the grounds, which is very beautiful.❤

However, this shrine is too popular, and traffic jams occur, especially during the New Year holidays 🚙

I bought a souvenir at Roadside Station Fuji .

This is matcha flavored potato chips “Sagamien Ocha Potato” (Sagamien Co., Ltd.)

Upon opening, you will be greeted by the soothing aroma of tea.

The potato chips are covered in finely chopped tea leaves.

The refreshing bitterness of the maccha reduced the oiliness, and I ended up eating it all in no time.😋

 

We are currently working hard to plan a day trip tour of Shizuoka Prefecture!

This year, we will be operating buses not only in Yamanashi , but also in Shizuoka 🚌=3
