Mt. Fuji climbing & Tourist information for the area around Mt. Fuji in Summer !

June 11, 2025

Hello, we are Toyoko Inn Bus!

The long-awaited opening of Mount Fuji is fast approaching🗻

This time, we will introduce you to the necessary information for climbing Mt. Fuji and information on summer events around Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi😆

[2025 Mt. Fuji climbing season]

・Yamanashi Prefecture side trailhead: July 1st ~ September 10th.

・Shizuoka Prefecture side trailhead: July 10th ~ September 10th.

Please refrain from climbing outside of this period as it can be dangerous due to snow accumulation etc.☃

[Rules for climbing Mt. Fuji in 2025]

When climbing above the 5th station of Mount Fuji, be sure to wear proper gear, follow the rules and put safety first.

・Between 2:00 PM and 3:00 AM, the gates to the trailhead will be closed and entry to the mountain is not permitted (except for guests staying at mountain huts).

・When climbing the mountain, please pay a fee of 4,000 yen.

・Follow the instructions of the instructors to prevent dangerous behavior and violations of etiquette in the mountains.

・At the trailhead on the Shizuoka side, you will need to take a "pre-learning course on rules and etiquette for preserving Mt. Fuji and climbing safely" before entering the mountain. Please complete this course in advance via e-learning.

For more information on the rules for climbing Mt. Fuji, please see the official website for Mt. Fuji climbing .

[Characteristics of each climbing route]

・Yoshida Route (Yamanashi Prefecture side)

This route starts from the 5th station of the Fuji Subaru Line. It is the most popular route, but it gets very crowded. It is said to be easier than other routes, but it is impossible to climb lightly. When climbing, be sure to prepare the proper equipment and create a reasonable climbing schedule.

・Subashiri Route (Shizuoka Prefecture side)

This route starts climbing from the 5th station of the Fuji Azami Line. The forested area along the way has poor visibility, so be careful not to get lost at night or in thick fog. Also, after the 8th station, the route merges with the Yoshida Route, so it can get very crowded.

Gotemba Route (Shizuoka Prefecture side)

This route is the longest from the trailhead to the summit and is recommended for those with good walking ability. There are few climbers and it is not crowded, but there are fewer landmarks such as mountain huts compared to other routes, so be careful not to get lost.

Fujinomiya Route (Shizuoka Prefecture side)

This is the shortest route from the trailhead to the summit, but it is recommended for experienced climbers as it is steep and has many rocky areas. The path to the summit and the path down are the same, so please be considerate to each other when it is crowded.

[I don't climb mountains, but I want to enjoy Mt. Fuji!]

For those who want to enjoy the natural beauty of Mt. Fuji but can't do serious mountain climbing, we recommend a trip to the 5th Station of the Fuji Subaru Line !

At the 5th station of the Fuji Subaru Line, there are shrine and souvenir shops , and there are also walkways ( Ochudo and Okuniwa ) that are perfect for a leisurely stroll.😍

If you don't climb above the fifth station, you won't need to pay the 4,000 yen toll! Make it a memorable summer trip to Mt. Fuji!

[How to get to the trailhead]

During the Fuji climbing season, the roads around the trailhead are closed to private vehicles, so you cannot drive to the trailhead 🚙

Fujikyu Bus operates shuttle buses from the stations closest to each trailhead. For details, please see the Fujikyu Bus website 🚌

Yoshida Fire Festival (Fujiyoshida City)

Date and time: August 26-27, 2025

The Yoshida Fire Festival, held every year on August 26 and 27, is one of Japan's three rare festivals with a history of over 450 years.

As the name "Fire Festival" suggests, many large torches are lit along the approximately 1km road from the torii gate near Mt. Fuji Station to the Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine 🔥

The sight of the town of Yoshida lit up by flames is a truly spectacular sight that heralds the end of summer at Mt. Fuji!

*If you are participating in the fire festival, please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.
