Enjoy the water city of Mishima!

We can hardly wait for spring these days, how are you doing?

The other day, I went to Mishima City in Shizuoka Prefecture .

Mishima, a stop on the Tokaido Shinkansen, is a city that has flourished since ancient times as a transportation hub with the Tokaido road running east to west, the Koshu Kaido road running north, and the Shimoda Kaido road running south.

Mishima is also known as a city of water, with abundant spring water from Mt.Fuji.

There are parks and walking paths along Sakuragawa river and Genbeigawa river near the station, and Kakitagawa river a short distance away, where you can enjoy a stroll.

I headed towards Mishima Taisha Shrine, enjoying the scenery along the river.

　

Mishima Taisha Shrine is an ancient shrine that is recorded in books dating back more than 1,000 years.

The enshrined deities are Oyamatsumi-no-mikoto and Tsumihayae-kotoshironushi-no-kami, collectively known as Mishima Daimyojin, and their divine power is said to be unrivaled in the Tokai region of Japan.

As befits a city of water, the shrine grounds feature a beautiful pond and a spring water collection spot .

　

*If you want to drink spring water, make sure to boil it thoroughly first.

 

There are cherry and plum trees planted along the pond and the approach to the shrine, and this time I enjoyed the spring feeling with the plum and early-blooming cherry trees 🌸

Mishima Taisha Shrine is also home to a sweet osmanthus tree, which has been designated a national natural monument.

The tree is estimated to be over 1,200 years old !

It's a great place to visit in the fall when the sweet osmanthus flowers are in bloom.

 

I took a local bus from the bus stop in front of Mishima Taisha Shrine and headed to Mishima Skywalk.

　

Mishima Skywalk is the longest pedestrian-only suspension bridge in Japan (400m).

Unfortunately, there were clouds this time, but the view was still amazing!

 

From the bridge I could see a panoramic view of Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji 😄

Just across the bridge is the North Area, which has shops and activities.

The specialty of the shop on the right, "Skywalk Soft Cream," is the sky-blue soft serve ice cream known as "Sora Soft." 🍦

Don't forget that the soft serve ice cream discount coupon you receive when you enter the Skywalk can also be used at this shop!

Applications for activities are accepted at the store in the back right, [tree tree tree].

In particular, the "Long Zip Slide," where you slide down the wire right next to the suspension bridge, is very exciting!

In the southern area just before the suspension bridge, there are many restaurants and souvenir shops.

Among them, the "SKY GARDEN" at the top of the escalator is a very beautiful place with many colorful flowers hanging from the ceiling 😍

I was able to relax and enjoy choosing souvenirs while admiring the beautiful flowers 🌹

 

Finally, I enjoyed Mishima's specialty B-class gourmet food, “Mishima croquette”.

Mishima croquettes are made using 100% Mishima potatoes (Mishima Bareisho) grown on the western foot of Mount Hakone, and there are many Mishima croquette shops in the city.

This time, I chose the Mishima croquette from Tochuken , a bento shop located at the south exit of Mishima Station !

　

The outside of the croquette is crispy and the inside is moist and soft 😋

The Mishima potatoes were slightly sweet and delicious, with a simple taste that somehow reminded me of nostalgia.

You can also get sauce at the store, so if you like strong flavors, be sure to give it a try!
