Fujiyoshida Hataorimachi Festival & Autumn at Lake Kawaguchiko🍂
October 29, 2025
Hello, we are Toyoko Inn Bus!
The weather has been pleasant and autumnal, 😊perfect for an outing!

The Hataori-machi Festival, an event to promote local textiles, was held in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture on October 18th and 19th, 2025.
Fujiyoshida is known for its Mt. Fuji and Arakurayama Sengen Park , but it is also a city with a long history as a textile town ! Its history is long, dating back to over 2,000 years ago when weaving and sericulture techniques were introduced from China😲
A textile production area with such a long history is rare worldwide, and textiles produced in eastern Yamanashi Prefecture (Gunnai) are known as "Gunnai textiles" or "Kai silk" and have been highly regarded since ancient times.

Although there are challenges, such as competition with cheap foreign textiles, Fujiyoshida textile manufacturers work with various people, including designers from inside and outside the prefecture and Tokyo Zokei University, to promote the appeal of Fujiyoshida as the "town of weaving ," and work hard every day to boost the textile industry in Fujiyoshida.👍
This time, I visited Fujiyoshida on the first day of the Hataorimachi Festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary!

Before going to Fujiyoshida, we took a quick detour to Lake Kawaguchiko.
The 27th Fujikawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival will be held at Lake Kawaguchiko from November 1st to 30th, 2025🍂
This year, the leaves are said to be changing color later than usual, so I looked into the current state of the leaves as of the end of October!

Ubuyagasaki is a very popular spot to view autumn leaves , located just east of the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge , less than 30 minutes on foot from Toyoko Inn Fuji Kawaguchiko Ohashi🍂 Here you can capture the beautiful autumn leaves, Mount Fuji, and Lake Kawaguchiko in one photo😍 On this day, the leaves had not yet turned color, and there were few people around, making it a quiet place.

Also, there is a great spot to take photos of Mt. Fuji reflected upside down on the lake surface, so if you visit on a windless day, be sure to give it a try🗻

Next, I went to Oishi Park, where the kochia flowers were in bloom!

The whole area is bright red and very beautiful🥰
The best time to see kochia seems to be a little earlier than the autumn leaves. If you want to see the red of the leaves, I recommend coming early, but if you want to see the gentle golden hue that appears towards the end of the peak season, I recommend coming later.

After enjoying the magnificent kochia, I headed to Fujiyoshida City.

Shimoyoshida Station on the Fujikyu Railway Line is the nearest station to Arakurayama Sengen Park , which is extremely popular for its views of the five-story pagoda and Mt. Fuji 🗻 It is famous for its cherry blossoms in spring 🌸 but it is also a beautiful spot for its autumn leaves🍂 On this day, many tourists were walking towards the park.

This time, instead of going to the park, I went to the town center.

Omuro Sengen Shrine is about a 6-minute walk from Shimoyoshida Station⛩
This is one of the main venues for the Hataori-machi Festival , and in addition to food, drink, and miscellaneous goods stalls, textile manufacturers from Fujiyoshida City were selling B-grade (slightly damaged) fabric at a discount!

It was a huge success🎵 Although there were some scratches, they were not noticeable. It was a great event for those who enjoy handicrafts❤

Leaving the shrine and walking down the main street, I arrived at an area lined with food and miscellaneous goods stalls. During the festival, stalls like these were set up all over the city🏠

Some venues offered gourmet food and shopping, while others held workshops where you could make fabric accessories!

The retro townscape on the way to the venue is also wonderful✨ Fujiyoshida is filled with stylish cafes and photogenic spots.

I was thirsty after walking so much, so I had an iced matcha latte at the tea shop Harukiya🍵

The matcha latte is made with authentic matcha whisked in a tea whisk, and has a wonderful tea aroma😍 The mellowness of the milk and the perfect amount of sweetness are so delicious that I drank it all in no time😋
Harukiya offers matcha soft serve ice cream, as well as other matcha sweets and drinks🍦 The sister store, Harukiya Coffee Roastery, is located across the street, so it's perfect for tea and coffee lovers alike 🍵☕

In this way, I was able to spend a fun autumn day in Fujiyoshida, shopping, taking photos, and enjoying tea❤

The Hataori-machi Festival is held every October in Fujiyoshida City. Also, on the third Saturday of every month, there is a workshop and sales event called FACTORY SHOP OPEN at a textile factory in the city.
Furthermore, on December 6th and 7th, 2025, a Christmas market unique to this textile town, "Hataori-machi Christmas," will be held🎄
Why not visit Fujiyoshida to see its beautiful textiles and retro townscape?😆
