Mt. Fuji 5th Station 🗻 Onchudo and Okuniwa Walking 🍂

October 17, 2024

Hello, we are Toyoko Inn Bus!

The weather is getting more comfortable these days, how are you doing?

The other day, I went to the fifth station of the Fuji Subaru Line on Mt. Fuji 🗻

Generally, when people think of Mt. Fuji, they imagine climbing it in full gear, but the area around the 5th Station of the Fuji Subaru Line has many wonderful tourist spots, including walking trails for beginners, shrines, and souvenir shops.

I arrived at the 5th Station of the Fuji Subaru Line and my first destination was Gogoen Rest House.

The specialty of there is the Mt. Fuji Melon Bread!

It's crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and super delicious😋

There is also a post office inside the rest house, so you can send postcards from the 5th Station of Mt. Fuji 🍂

From the observation deck of Mt. Fuji Komitake Shrine , you can get a beautiful view of Yamanakako(Lake Yamanaka).

If you want to see the scenery beyond the fifth station, how about a horseback riding experience that will take you a little further?🐴

The fifth station is full of Mt. Fuji gourmet food and souvenir shops.

For this souvenir , I chose the "Fujitama" (a sugar-coated almond snack), a limited edition product at the Komitake souvenir shop.

The simple, slightly sweet taste and the crunchy texture of the almonds were amazing 😋

For those who want to casually enjoy the nature of Mt. Fuji, I recommend the Onchu-do walking course that starts from the fifth station and the Okuniwa promenade just before the fifth station.

This is a walking course for beginners that does not require any special equipment.

There are three walking courses along the Onchudo trail.

・Course A is a flat road about 2.4km (1 hour 10 minutes) one way.

・Course B is about 0.5km (30-40 minutes) one way, has elevation changes and a nice view.

・Course C is about 1.0 km (about 30 minutes) one way, has elevation changes and goes through the forest.

At the end of Course A, the course branches off into Courses B and C, so you can do Course A+B, Course A+C, or a round trip on Course A.

You can choose a course based on your time and physical strength.

Course A starts from the side of Unjokaku at the 5th station.

It's an easy walk, perfect for families, and offers forest scenery and great views.

On a clear day, you can even see Kawaguchiko !

The white diagonal line in the center of the photo below is the Kawaguchiko Bridge.

It's fun to look for mushrooms growing among the moss and cowberries that bear red berries in autumn🍄

Collecting plants or animals is prohibited on Mt. Fuji. Please enjoy taking lots of photos 📷

Course B is the path to the right from the fork at the end of Course A. This one also has a great view!

For Course C, go left at the fork at the end of Course A.

You can occasionally hear the sounds of birds singing from the forest.

At the end of courses B and C, there is the entrance to the Okuniwa Promenade.

This is just under 1km (just under 1 hour) in one lap.

If you walk up the slope through the forest, admiring tourist spots such as Tengu Rock, you will come to an observation deck at the very back.

The Okuniwa promenade is perfect for easy walking.

You can take the Fujikyu Bus from the Okuniwa entrance (Oniwa bus stop) .

You can either return to the fifth station or go down and head to Kawaguchiko or somewhere else.

In this way, from early morning until around noon, I was able to fully enjoy Mt. Fuji by walking, buying and eating (*^-^*)

Toyoko Inn Bus operates a direct bus from Hotel Toyoko Inn Fujikawaguchiko Ohashi to the 5th Station of the Fuji Subaru Line by reservation.
