Autumn is deepening and the cold days are continuing.
Please stay warm and avoid catching a cold.
The other day, I went to Lake Kawaguchi to see the autumn leaves.
Early in the morning, while I was waiting for a train to Kawaguchiko at the Chuo Line platform, the much talked about Green Car of Chuo Line Rapid Service appeared!
The official launch of the Chuo Line Rapid Green Car service is scheduled for March 2025, but there is currently a trial period where you can ride in the Green Car without paying the additional fare!
The new double-decker carriages are very clean and the seats are comfortable.🥰
Until March 2025, a mixture of 10-car trains without Green Cars and 12-car trains with Green Cars will be in operation.
If you'd like to ride it, please check the JR East app or at any station on the Chuo Line.
I changed to the Fujikyu Railway Line at Otsuki Station and arrived at Arakurayama Sengen Park, about a 10-minute walk from Shimoyoshida Station.
Arakurayama is a popular spot for taking photos of cherry blossoms, the five-story pagoda, Mt. Fuji, and other sights in the spring, and the autumn leaves are also very beautiful 🍂
The observation deck, reached by climbing 398 steps , was bustling with tourists despite it being early in the morning.
It's a tough climb, but the views are amazing! Highly recommended!
I got back on the train and headed to Kawaguchiko Station. There was a shuttle bus to Toyoko Inn Fujikawaguchiko Ohashi in front of the station 🚌
If you are staying at Toyoko Inn, you can also make reservations for this shuttle bus, so please feel free to use it during your stay ♪
I rented bicycles near the station and headed to Ubuyagasaki, a scenic spot just across the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge.
On the day I visited, the lake was rough due to strong winds, but Ubuyagasaki is famous as a spot where you can take photos of "inverted Fuji" reflected on the water's surface.
If you visit Kawaguchiko on a windless day, be sure to give it a try!
The Momiji Corridor is located a little west of the north end of the Kawaguchiko Ohashi Bridge.
The corridor was lined with bright red and yellow trees, and I enjoyed the beautiful contrast as I walked.
There are many art museums around the Momiji Corridor, including the Kawaguchiko Museum of Art, the Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, the Konohana Museum, and the Kubota Itchiku Art Museum.
Why not take a tour of art museums while admiring the autumn leaves?
Oishi Park is located to the west of the Momiji Corridor.
At Oishi Park, the kochia flowers turn bright red, and even after the peak season has passed, their warm, gentle colors remain beautiful.
I would usually turn back here, but this time I decided to go further west to Momiji Tunnel, a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves.
It's a little far from the main tourist spots, but the views are amazing!
After enjoying the autumn leaves, I had fun choosing souvenirs at Kawaguchiko Base Travel Station.
I bought "Morokoshi Kintsuba" made with corn from Yamanashi Prefecture!
Morokoshi kintsuba is a sweet made of corn paste wrapped in a thin flour skin.
Upon opening , the sweet and fragrant aroma of corn spreads out.
The corn paste was very smooth and just the right amount of sweet 😋

Both tours take you to famous autumn foliage or kochia viewing spots, so they are recommended for those who want to casually enjoy Kawaguchiko in the fall!
