Mt.Fuji Climebed 2025!
July 16, 2025
Hello, I'm U, a beginner climber.
I recently climbed Mt. Fuji for the first time in 10 years.
For those who would like to climb Mt. Fuji (3,776m), the highest mountain in Japan,
I've put together a summary of my equipment, route choices, etc. for your reference.
I hope you'll take a look.
1.Schedule
Every year, the Yamanashi side (Yoshidaguchi Route) opens on July 1st, and the Shizuoka side (Subashiri Route, Gotemba Route, Fujinomiya Route) opens around July 10th.
Amazingly !!!
There are more than three smartphone antennas along the entire hiking route!!! No need to worry.
The period during which climbing is possible is until September 10th.
The later in this two-month period, the more susceptible you are to typhoons, the more likely the weather is to be unstable, and the greater the temperature difference, so we recommend that you plan to climb in the first half of the period to avoid risk.
2. Introduction to climbing routes
Every year, 200,000 people aim to climb Mt. Fuji, and of these, about 180,000 people, take the Yoshidaguchi route (about 7-8 hours) starting from the Subaru Line 5th Station on the Yamanashi Prefecture side (2,300m above sea level).
The Subashiri route (about 7 hours) starts from the Subashiriguchi 5th Station (2,000m above sea level), and once you leave the tree line, you can see the sunrise from anywhere.
The Gotemba route (about 9 hours) starts from the Gotembaguchi New 5th Station (1,450m), but there are few toilets, so it is recommended for those with good stamina, and there is no shade, so be careful of heatstroke.
The Fujinomiya route (about 5.5 hours) can be started from the highest point (2,300m above sea level), so it has the second most climbers the Yoshida route, and at the 6th station you can connect to the Prince route, which joins the Gotemba route.
3. Equipment
A backpack that can hold water, cold and rainproof clothing, high-energy snacks, sunglasses, gloves, a headlamp, a hat, and a towel are essential.
Other things to bring are trekking poles, gaiters, sunscreen, and oxygen cans.
4. Measures against altitude sickness
Rather than starting the climb abruptly,it is better to stay at the entrance to the route for an hour to allow your body to get used to the high altitude before starting the climb.
This time I climbed the Yoshida route, and after passing the 9th station, I was hit with a headache and drowsiness, so I slept for about 20 minutes to try to recover, but the symptoms did not improve and I had to retire.
It is also an important rule in mountain climbing to not push yourself and to give up.
Of the July 6, people I approached, the ratio was 70% foreigners and 30% Japanese.
A bowl of curry rice at the summit restaurant costs just 1,500 yen!
The Yoshida Trail has a separate descent course that continues downhill over slippery pumice.
It put a lot of strain on my knees, but the trekking poles were extremely effective.
There are many trail runners on the descent, so you need to be careful.
Mount Fuji is a symbol of Japan and a place that fascinates people around the world.
Why not try climbing it yourself to experience the breathtaking scenery and sense of accomplishment?
