A journey across central Shizuoka Prefecture✨

August 6, 2025

Hello, we are Toyoko Inn Bus!

The hot days continue, so please be careful not to get heatstroke.🌤

The other day, I went to the central area of Shizuoka Prefecture 🍃

Shizuoka Prefecture is famous for Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay, but this area is also blessed with nature, including mountains, rivers, and the sea, and there are many spots to enjoy!

This time, I traveled by car from Kawane Honcho Town, where the Oigawa Railway, famous for its lakeside station, is located, down the mountain, through the tea fields of Shimada City and Makinohara City, and to the sea at Omaezaki City🚙

First, I headed to Oigawa Railway Okuoikojo Station in Kawane Honcho Town.

I drove about 50km from Shizuoka City on the forest road first thing in the morning, and when we climbed up to the observation deck , about a 10-minute walk from the parking lot , I was greeted by a beautiful view of the lake and the station !

The contrast between the emerald green lake water and the red railway bridge in the clear air is very beautiful😍

Also, if you walk for about 20 minutes from the parking lot , you can cross the railway bridge and reach Okuoikojo Station . There is a cafe attached to the station , where you can relax and enjoy coffee and light meals. I would definitely like to visit next time!

The Oigawa Railway is currently closed between Kawane Onsen Sasamado Station and Senzu Station due to a disaster.

To get to Okuoikojo Station , located further into the mountains than the closed section , you can take a bus from Shizuoka Station to Igawa Station , then take a train or bus from there. Another option is to take the train from Kanaya Station in Shimada City to Ieyama Station , then take the Kawane Honcho Town Municipal Bus to Senzu Station , and then get on the train .

There are few bus and train services on either route, so if you are heading to Okuoikojo Station by public transportation , please check the timetable carefully before coming.

After enjoying the view from Okuoikojo Station , I drove down the mountain along the Oigawa River .

The scenery of lush green mountains and rivers is a feast for the eyes, with occasional dams and suspension bridges

There are also roadside stations and hot springs scattered throughout the area, so it might be a good idea to make them your destinations.

I descended the mountain and arrived in Shimada City.

Shimada City is a place I visited in May this year! There are many tourist spots such as the Fujinokuni Tea Museum and Horai Bridge.🍵

I drove through the tea fields of Shimada City and arrived in Makinohara City .

When I went to the Soratto Makinohara Roadside Station, which just opened on July 18, 2025 , I found it to be a huge success and extremely crowded!

At the end of the queue to enter the farm stand, I saw a sign that said "90 minutes wait."⌚

The queue to get into the bakery was relatively short, so I joined in, but the featured items, the matcha anpan and matcha melon bread, were sold out before I could even buy them 🍞They're incredibly popular...

At this roadside station , there is also a shop where you can enjoy matcha sweets and gourmet food. I would like to visit again when the crowds have calmed down🍵

After leaving the roadside station , I headed towards the southern tip of the Omaezaki Peninsula .

The white lighthouse stands out against the blue sky, creating a truly summery scene 😆

Apparently the Omaezaki Peninsula is the southernmost point of Shizuoka Prefecture. I was surprised because I thought the Izu Peninsula was the southernmost‼

In Omaezaki, there is a local soup called "Gawajiru" that is often eaten in the summer.

Gawajiru is a cold miso soup containing sashimi and raw vegetables, and is said to have originated when fishermen in Omaezaki made it on their boats. It is served only in summer at restaurants in Omaezaki city.

It was just lunchtime, so I decided to have a seafood bowl and Gawajiru at the seafood restauraurant "Kaisen Ryori Miharu"😋

First, we had the seafood bowl, which was luxurious with lots of thickly sliced sashimi🐟

The bonito in particular was the most delicious I've ever eaten 😍 The bonito from Omaezaki was fresh, moist, and absolutely delicious❤

Next up is the much-anticipated Gawajiru soup .

The vegetable toppings, mainly sliced onions, had a crunchy texture, and the sourness of the pickled plum topping, combined with the refreshing yet rich cold miso soup, created a very refreshing flavor! The sashimi at the bottom of the bowl was cold and very delicious🥰

After enjoying a delicious lunch, we took a walk along the beach at Omaezaki .

Marine Park Omaezaki is located on the east coast of the Omaezaki Peninsula, along Suruga Bay, and is a perfect spot for summer, with a campground and a swimming beach😆

The seawater was clear and the sand was sparkling with mica✨

Next to the Marine Park is the Nabula Seafood Market. The facility is packed with seafood and souvenirs, including restaurants serving seafood bowls and Gawajiru soup, as well as shops selling souvenirs centered around seafood dishes!

Delivery and refrigerated delivery are also available, so you can rest assured that you'll be able to purchase fresh ingredients.🐟

Omaezaki is a really great place, I love it 🥰
